What others say about us

Nan Art Studio gave me the confidence to be proud of my art and explore new mediums. Through artistic guidance and visual research, students will learn how to create unique art pieces as well as expand their artistic skill sets.

Nan Art challenged me to expand not only my skills but also my concepts past the limit to give colleges the uniqueness and innovation that they’re looking for.

At Nan Art, I was able to create art that maximized my full potential thanks to the teacher’s guidance and my fellow classmates’s support at hakwon.

As a student who has taken both the Hobby and Portfolio Class, I have loved every experience I was able to take from this. All teachers/staff were friendly and encouraging in that I was able to become comfortable in exploring what type of artwork I wanted to make and develop myself as an artist. They were also amazing at helping me familiarize myself with the expectations of the colleges I was applying for which really helped my confidence in the application process. Definitely miss this environment!

Mr. Lee was the first art studio director who saw my potential and pushed me to try harder. I went to the other studios before coming to Nan, and other instructors said it was “too late” for me to start an art portfolio or even consider art school. I went to Nan Art Studio the summer before my senior year of college, and Mr. Lee guided me through six months of portfolio work with endless patience and encouragement. Although I ended up committing to Princeton to study architecture rather than an art school, I am forever indebted to Mr. Lee’s instruction; I even wrote about him in one of my Princeton essays. He gave me hope in my abilities when I didn’t have any, and he treated me with the utmost kindness. You can trust that he places the same focus and care into each student.

Nan Art helped me get into the Governor’s Honors Program even with limited experience with art prior, and they helped me become the best artist I could be. They helped me explore new mediums as well as develop the foundational techniques necessary and helped push me outside of my comfort zone to help me find my passion for visual arts. Mr. Lee & the teachers at Nan Art helped me pave my path as an artist at a young age, and I’m forever grateful!

Nan Art helped me through the process of my portfolio which stretched my creativity and abilities in art. They pushed me through my barriers which propounded my skills as well as opening up different categories of art. It was truly a great opportunity and a pleasant experience to learn at this studio.

By the time I went Nan Art Studio, I was so insecure about my art skill that I didn’t even think of applying my dream school. My art director kept pushing me to give it a try though I had only four months left till deadline. Through this hard journey he helped me regain confidence in art, not to mention that my art  skills have improved especially in idea processing. He surely knows what art colleges want to see from an applicant, but more importantly, I learned how to be an artist than just building a portfolio.
“I came to Nan Art with very limited experience in studio learning, equipped only with what I taught myself. Immediately after I started taking classes, I began to see my skill improve exponentially. I’d never thought that I could do art as more than a hobby, but within two years of joining Nan I was accepted as a GHP Visual Arts finalist and even created an art supplemental portfolio to send to colleges.

Nan Art gave me the opportunity to explore all sorts of different mediums, from oils to charcoals to metal sculpting, and encouraged my creative pursuits. The teachers are all extremely talented artists who don’t just draw your art piece for you when you’re struggling, but actively provide feedback and advice. Ms. Sally and Ms. Mimi are both so kind and skilled and I learned so much from them over the years. They’re very easygoing and approachable, so it’s easy to ask for help or even to just make casual conversation. Wonjangnim might seem a little scary at first, but he cares about each of his students and makes sure that everyone gets the attention and help they need, whether it’s technical work or creative brainstorming. He guided me through the art portion of the college process and I’m not sure I could’ve gotten into my dream school without his help.

The atmosphere is also warm and friendly, where students can learn from each other and make new friends. In fact, I met my best friend here! Students can chat quietly, play music, and snack while they draw or paint, making the environment feel almost like a cozy second home. The best part of my week was coming to Nan on Saturday and Sunday to work on my pieces.

Nan Art gave me a chance to fully embrace my potential as an artist and is truly the best art studio anyone can wish for. I know that even as I leave the studio to go to college, I will always look back on my time at Nan with fondness and gratitude.”

Before I came to Nan Art, I had always thought of art as a far-fetched dream or hobby I could never pursue. However, my time spent in the studio proved my initial doubts wrong. Exploring different mediums with Ms. Mimi and crafting a portfolio with Mr. Lee was a transformative and enjoyable experience. I learned so much about different art techniques and developed my own style while having fun at the same time.

Nan Art gave me the confidence and agency to continue pursuing art in my own time and way, using it as a medium to enjoy myself and escape reality for a few hours. Everyone at the studio is so kind and supportive and I am so grateful for the time I have spent at Nan Art!

Before attending Nan Art Studio, I never thought I would have enough skills to pursue art for college, or even get into an art school as I haven’t started on my art portfolio and had very little confidence in my art skills. Toward the end of my junior year in high school, I began to take my dream of pursuing art in college more seriously and luckily, I found Nan Art Studio online. I began online learning at Nan Art using Zoom during the summer before my senior year in high school. In less than 10 months of committing to Nan Art and being instructed by Mr. Lee, I was able to complete my art portfolio, learn acrylic and oil painting for the first time, explore new medium and find my art style, learn how to use photoshop, meet other classmates who are also learning online, and most importantly, I became more confident in my art skills. I will forever be thankful and grateful to Mr. Lee and the other instructors at Nan Art who have guided me, taught me, believed in me, and pushed me when I thought I couldn’t do it.

I started art very late into my high school years. At first, I was very hesitant to start and had low confidence in my skills. After taking the Hobby class and the Portfolio class, I was able to learn lots of new things and get my skills ready for college. The teacher is a very passionate and caring person, who brings out the creative spirit in everyone. I was able to gain good results and confidence in my skills as an artist. I was able to finish my portfolio in time, even though I thought I was too late for it. I was worried that doing online classes would not provide me good feedback, but I was wrong. Taking these classes has given me the chance to improve and see a future where I can do what I truly want.

Before I met Nan Art Studio, I wasn’t familiar with creating artwork using my own idea. That’s why I wanted to learn art, but unfortunately, there was no art academy near my area, so I came to know Nan Art while I was worried. I got to know  Nan Art Studio and started taking online classes using Zoom. The art academy I had attended was a class that was passively followed according to the stereotyped teaching method, but Nan Art valued each student’s “creativity” in a free atmosphere, trusted students, and gave helpful feedback. It was challenging at first to come up with my own unique ideas, but as I progressed through the classes, I found myself gradually growing. I have been able to get good results at all the universities where I have applied with my art portfolio. I am grateful to Nan Art for bringing out my potential and giving me the opportunity to experience a sense of achievement and confidence in my ability.

At Nan Art, I was able to explore different possibilities and everyone there pushed me to become the artist I am right now. I took both the hobby classes and the portfolio class, and they were both amazing, the teachers there were always there when I needed them and taught me so much. They helped me grow and improve my art significantly and would always help if I had any troubles. Mr. Lee sparked my creativity and helped me through creating my portfolio and with that, he led me toward success, he truly cared about all of his students and always attended to their needs. Nan Arts is truly the right place to be.

Nan Art Studio is a great place to go to for hobbies and portfolios. This place is great for long term classes and you can get at a personal level with the director. Each teacher knows what they are talking about and give great advice on your art pieces. They let you have a lot of freedom of what you want to do with your art and help you with different art styles and ideas. I had a great experience going here for many years and I highly recommend this place for you or your child.

Mr. Lee was a foundational person in my life for building a successful college application for art school, and Nan Art was the ideal environment to grow as a student. When I took the portfolio class, I loved the other students, and the teachers were friendly and supportive. Mr. Lee not only encouraged me to do my best but also gave me constructive criticism that helped me change my perspective on art in ways I couldn’t have before. I love this studio, and I can’t thank him enough.

I felt that I could grow as both an individual and artist during my time at Nan Art. The instructors and Mr. Lee were always open to discussion about anything ranging from bouncing ideas for projects to being a life-mentor for navigating high school life. Although it was difficult to follow the out-of-the-box, creative, style-finding method of teaching Nan Art offers, I slowly grew to see that this method of appraoching art was what allowed each student at the studio to develop their own style fit to flourish in the years beyond their time here at the studio. Not only this, I also firmly believe that my experience with art as a whole allowed me to develop my creative, analytical, and multi-directional style of approach to problem solving.

My experience at Nan Art was like no other, Mr.Lee truly is a great teacher and role model who helped me get into the Governor’s Honors Program and a full ride to New York University. He pushed me to overcome boundaries seen within the standard portfolio, urging me to reach a level of creativity which got me into all my top schools with generous scholarships.

Nan Art Studio really helped me develop both my artistic technique and creativity. The teachers in the hobby class are very dedicated and they help suggest improvements to even the tiny things in order to make the final piece better. Before the portfolio class I hadn’t done much creative artwork before but thanks to working with Mr. Lee, I started to develop ideas for my own artwork that were unique and unlike anything I had created before. The portfolio class really encouraged me to incorporate new design elements into my artwork and I think that helped a lot with developing my creativity.

Before I started taking classes at Nan Art, I was worried that I would not be able to complete my portfolio since I started very late. Despite this setback, I ended up getting the highest grade of scholarship for one of the top computer animation schools. Words can not describe the improvement I have made throughout just a year of attending. I truly believe that I could not have been accepted to this prestigious college without these classes. Mr. Lee not only taught me the skills to get accepted, but also got me well-equipped for my upcoming four years of college.  If you are considering applying for any art-related major, Nan Art will bring out the best of you.
